Moustakas or Longoria

Who would you rather have?  I have said a few times that Moustakas won’t get the contract a lot of people expect him to get.  So, would you rather sign Moustakas or trade for Longoria.  

We all know about Moustakas, we have been linked to him and have had plenty of discussions about him.  

Longoria is owed $86 million over the next 5 years, or $89 million for the next 6 years.  I have no idea if the Rays would pay part of his contract to move him, I am guessing they would, if we gave up the right prospects.  He has averaged a 3.5 WAR the last four years.  Each of those four years he has been between a 3.2 and a 3.9, so he is extremely consistent.  The main problem is you would be paying for his decline.  He is going into his age 32 season.

Out of those two choices i would pick Moustakas.  Younger, cheaper, left handed and hitting his prime.

fairly certain Longoria's 10-5 rights kick in soon. So if something like that happened he'd have to waive his no trade clause

If money wasn’t an issue, I would as well.  But when those guys are going to get $150-250 million, well then money becomes an issue.

He would waive his no trade clause to play here.  He went to Long Beach, he is local, and I am sure he doesn’t want to go through another rebuild if the rumors are true.

Moustakas. He'll cost about the same or less and you won't have to give up prospects, and they're almost the same exact player these days, except Moose has a chance to be better going forward.

This sums me up as well.   Moustakis would likely cost less than whats remaining for Longorio i think

It depends on the price, really. It depends on what it'd take to trade for Longoria and also what it'd take to sign Moustakas. 

Longoria is owed 5/81 (or 5/86 if you give him a $5 million buyout in 2023) and he is still really productive. He has put up an  11.1 WAR from 2015-2017.

The problem with Longo is his OBP has barely eclipsed .300 each of the last few years. Moose at least has a chance to do better than that.

Although maybe Longo would do well with a change of scenery. I'd be ok with either I think.

You’re probably right but why are you so worried about Trout money?  Trout wants to win first and foremost! Pujols will be gone no worries

Longoria and Donaldson are the same age.  Donaldson will be more expensive than Longoria, but I agree they are both on the wrong side of 30.

True but Donaldson is a beast and will be way cheaper than Machado .
