Have Arte go back to his good ol days, and make a take it or leave it offer of 4 years $60 million.  Give him two days to accept, if he doesn’t accept, then go and sign Frazier.

I agree. If Moose doesn't take it, I'd be down with a Frazier/Valbuena platoon at 3B. The other plays 1B on days that Ohtani pitches and Pujols DH's.

Hernandez is the top priority, IMO.  He's young and will be cost-controlled for the next 3 years, which corresponds nicely with Trout's timeline.  I go back and forth on Moose.  I can see the benefits he'd provide - LH power bat, not old for a FA, won't be in high demand and can be reasonably had, etc.

I think if we had to live with a combo of Valbuena/Pujols/Marte/Cron at DH/1B/3B, it wouldn't be the worst thing, as long as we allocated our dollars to upgrade 2B, SP, and maybe a lefty reliever.

I'd be interested in a young player or blocked prospect like Ryan McMahon too, if we filled the other position well and fleshed out the bench and toyed with arms some more too.

It wouldn't be the cleanest fit, but given Eppler's penchant for dealing with Avila, I wonder what Kinsler and Castellanos would cost.

The Angels inquired on McMahon's availability at the trade deadline last season. I don't think the talks went anywhere.

Frazier and Trout are buddies too, both being from Jersey. Frazier shouldn't cost a lot.

Frazier is supposedly a great clubhouse guy.  Every interview I've ever heard with this guy makes me want to have a beer with him.  Even as a low avg guy, he's been a 2.5-3 WAR guy the last two years.

Scott Boras is Moustakas agent.  I think the odds he accepts a club friendly deal are slim to none.

I think Frazier would be a great add - better than Moose in many ways. His power is pure, and he is surprisingly fast and good defensively.

The biggest difference is Todd could be the righthanded version of Luis Valbuena awfully quick, at least offensively, whereas Moustakas could still be growing into a prime.

I'd be thrilled with either one really.

How much will Frazier cost in years and money? I'd rather have him for 2/$30M than Moustakas for 4/$70M or 5/$90M.

He probably gets 3 years, $12-15m annually, according to most projections.

Affordable, but he'll be 32 next year and offensively has only been a hair above average, by OPS+ standards. He's well-rounded enough to not fall off a cliff, but it's not too unbelievable to think years 2-3 could get a little gruesome with his BA being so low.

3-year averages, per 162 games:

LV: .226/.318/.442/.760, OPS+ 107 - 24 doubles, 29 homers, 68 walks, 141 strikeouts

TF: .233/.317/.466/.783, OPS+ 110 - 30 doubles, 36 homers, 68 walks, 150 strikeouts

I think this just highlights how undervalued Valbuena is. It's a combination of him never having a featured role, never being a top prospect, being landed on a team friendly contract in free agency, getting injured early on and struggling without a true Spring Training.

In the end, I think Valbuena is going to be a very ideal platoon partner in 2018.
