A team invest money in player and development of said player.  That is why they receive the minimum for three years as nd under team control for six.  The arbiter should not reward substantial raises for players who are injured for two and half years and could play.

They wouldn't have been hurt except for doing their job. I'm sure they will get less money than they would have had they pitched without being injured, but still they were injured on the job...

Considering that they are paying their minor leaguers less than minimum wage, it's hard for me to see the teams as truly 'investing' in their careers.

Arte Moreno has made billions off of major league baseball, all off an investment about the size of the one he made in Pujols, Hamilton and Wilson. Most of these players train their whole lives for the dream of making the big leagues, and it is a sacrifice everyday when you aren't taken in the first two rounds. Most of these guys wash out, but a handful get a brief taste of the major leagues, and a handful of those guys make it all the way to an arbitration hearing following 3 years where they made less than Luis Valbuena made in a month off a free agent contract.

In that hearing these players can only negotiate with one employer, and if at any time that employer feels they are getting a raw deal they are free to release that player into free agency. The team is free to walk away from a pre-arb injured player at any time, without owing them a dime. So you are right, the system isn't fair, but it's more than fair to the team, it's rigged in their favor.
