Special Elections

Recommended Posts

With as shitty a job as Trump is doing and all the money the Dems are spending on these special elections, they are absolutely going to clean the GOP's clock.  I mean, it's not even going to be close!  This is where we will truly see what the #Resist / #Resistance movement is made of.

Hang on Cons ... things are going to get ugly!

Speaking of that, in hindsight it's also apparently straight out of my "2010-2016 talking points for discussions with my many friends and family members that are Rangers fans" pamphlet.

However, in that case I was entirely serious

It's astounding that the Rangers managed to not only win less than 2 titles in those years, but none. They're so creative in their failure, too. Idiots.

It's been a far right district for some time now.  Not sure why the Dems wasted so much money here.

Obviously they thought they could flip it. Polls showed it was close, and Trump won the state by a narrow margin.

Georgia Republicans finally realized they needed to go vote. Wasn't even close.

Dems are 0-5 in special elections since Trump was elected.

Perhaps now (if unlikely) most the left will realize that this anticipated country-wide avalanche of anti-Trump momentum is only real on the political porn sites that cater to them? Perhaps this will spur more on to take 2018 as a more serious challenge as opposed to an inevitability of success?

At some point Democrats have to start winning elections and stop winning "moral victories". This was always going to be a tough district to flip but they set some high expectations and fell short again. I'm not sure this forecast the results of the 2018 house, Democrats losing by 3-4 points in districts that they usually lose by double digits shows credible candidates can make a difference, but those candidates need to start finding the message to close the remaining gap.

I do think it gives the Republicans a push to continue down their AHCA path.

Maybe if they were a little less Marxist and a little more mainstream, they might get more votes from people in states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania? Trump won several swing states by small margins. I understand Hillary didn't even visit Wisconsin. They thought it was in the bag.

Where are the Truman and Kennedy Democrats? Kennedy would be considered a conservative by today's party standards. What's the message of today's Democrat party? It doesn't seem to be resonating except in a few places like California, New York, and New England.

This is the type of district that Dems need to flip if they're going to take back the House next year.  Highly educated.  Trump only won it by 1% point.  If they can't win/flip a district like this, which ones can they flip?

I think Red's right though, there has to be a message other than "Trump Sucks."

I think it might come from health care.  If/When the GOP finishes shitting the bed on they're new Trumpcare package, that should give the Dems plenty to work with.

Since you think the GOP is going to "shit the bed" on healthcare, that actually gives me hope that they will come up with a good plan. Politically though, as long as they don't make any stupid promises like:

"If you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your healthcare plan"

- or -

"If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor"

- or -

“We’re going to lower your premiums by up to $2500 per family per year.”

- or -

“No family making less than $250,000 a year will see their taxes increase.”

- or -

“I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits, now or in the future.”

- or -

“I will sign a universal healthcare bill into law…that covers every American.”

they should be ok.

I don't know.  Maybe some districts in the midwest that went for Trump if their own healthcare is effected.  I am guessing most people who gained from Obamacare were already left leaning to begin with.

I posted a map in another thread, the alternative is actually true...a lot of Trump voters in very red districts are going to get hammered, more so than blue districts
