Roundabouts: yea or nay?

There are two here on the northwest side. They had a bunch of accidents on them until people became accustomed to them. They work well in the UK. That said, their drivers are generally better, and they don't allow the kind of rattletrap junk on the roads there that we have here.

i don't mind them, but still defensive because people don't know how to drive here when anything new is presented. last time i encountered them was in la jolla. orange circle here has one big one that's easy to navigate.

Orange Circle is usually busy, but easy enough to navigate.

F 'em.  The PCH roundabout at Lakewood is a nightmare.  It's like people turn into Ralph Wiggum when told he failed English.  Unpossible.

LB circle is a lot more busy, and much more open, then the simpler Orange Circle is.

Creating a circle that includes two busy roads like Lakewood Blvd and PCH is probably not the brightest ever idea.

Too many idiots in CA freak out or plain suck at driving. I'm tired of taking my car to body shops.

Hate them. First encountered them in Massachusetts where they're called rotaries. 

Too many idiot drivers in CA to expect them to work well.

They problem with roundabouts in some places is also what makes them great in other places and that's the concept of letting drivers make choices and expecting them to be predictable and use signals and proper speeds. A place like SoCal is more suited for a "RUN Forrest" and "STOP Forrest" type of traffic system where drivers aren't asked to think.

In areas where there are a lot of trucks and an equal number of drivers who want to speed past on the right it is very much an issue. When there are multiple entry and exit lanes for the same road it requires drivers to make decisions. That's where the concept falls apart.

I hate the one on PCH I used to drive it daily for about a year.
