Terrible Pitching, Richards...

I am sorry LT, but I would like to have a pitching coach that could actually pitch when they played the game.  It seems that this organization always settles for less.

The point is bdavis, most pitching coaches weren't good to great pitchers at the MLB level just as most hitting coaches weren't good to great hitters at the big league level. Having a great professional level athletic talent is not a predicator for being a good coach. Whether or not he was a good professional pitcher has no bearing on his coaching abilities.

I'm all for replacing Butcher but using your argument then all of the Angels pitchers would be unemployed.

A'ths pitching coach Curt Young had a much better MLB career than Butcher, that much for sure.

I don't agree that the best pitchers make the best coaches.

I am sure there are others, but all I am stating is that if you want to be the best you need to hire the best. This team has not done that with it's coaching staff.

During the game, Gubicza was actually blaming Conger being a "young catcher" for the poor start.

Yea Richards needs to step up and pitch better than a bottom of the rotation guy. We already have a bunch of those.

I think that's probably part of it. Richards is young too so there wasn't a good counter to bad sequence choices thrown out by Conger. And he clanked a couple of balls that should have been blocked IMO.

Richards is young, talented, and inexperienced. I'm giving him a pass here.

 

The whole team is a mess, and young players have been tossed into the mix before they're ready.

Young pitchers will make many mistakes and young catchers will make many mistakes. Put them on the same field and you'll see a crap load of mistakes. Tonight was ugly with wild pitches, missed locations, defensive catching, and pitch calling.
