Billy's first LF solution was Saunders.....not a bad idea....

He also backed himself up by picking up 292 other guys who could play LF just in casies..  Good thing too since Gentry/Nava proved to be made of glass...

In other news -- the team's OPS+ is 104.

When it comes to talent evaluation he has done a pretty solid, consistent job so far. He had a rep for that in the Yanks org, finding good players that were under the radar or undervalued or due for a bounce back. He isn't batting 1.000, but he's done a great job on a budget.

I'm sure that a lot of the acquisitions that he made were within the confines of what Moreno is allowing, rather than being his best judgment. I am not judging him as a GM based upon moves like Nava and Gentry.

To be fair to Eppler...

1. He originally intended Nava or Gentry to fill in as backup OF's. However, prices remained high and he never got the go ahead to make a move.

2. He did try to sign Austin Jackson, who is still good when healthy.

3. He came really close to acquiring Michael Saunders, which would've been amazing.

4. Even though he didn't plan this, Choi and Marte have emerged as an intriguing LF platoon. Younger, cheaper and more upside than Nava-Gentry ever was.

5. Our LF platoon really wouldn't be cause for concern if the rotation wasn't decimated by injury. But now it's just another problem in an ever growing list of issues Eppler has to address (minor league system, budget, LF, 2B, rotation and bullpen).

I love how he goes from being our clean up hitter one day to being designated for an assignment the next. WTH. He should have never been batting clean up.
