Daniel Nava to the DL with left patella tendinitis. Rafael Ortega has been called up from triple-A.

Real excited about Ortega. I think he's totally capable of putting up numbers and defense comparable to Ender Inciarte and could be a great #9-#2 hitter.

If he can provide that he could shore up an OF position for the next couple seasons and shift our needs elsewhere.

They need some first base depth until Pujols proves he can play the field regularly again or until Cron hits the way he should. Once either of those happen Choi is in trouble.

At that point Nava could fill Choi's role as the lefty off the bench who could play OF/1B, allowing Ortega to take the LF platoon with Gentry. Pennington playing first the other night in Oakland was another sign that Choi's days may be numbered.

Eppler and the FO also will be more knowledgable about other teams needs and the waiver, and may until they feel they have a shot at getting Choi through down and able to sign to place in SLC.

Cron is going to come around much quicker than he did last year, which ended up taking until June.  I think in the next week or so Cron will get his game going.  As for Choi, he fills a role.  He isn't starting in LF right now because Target field is pretty expansive.  Putting Ortega out there is a better fit for our defense and he fits the profile of a table setter which is what we need.

I don't think Choi's due date is up yet.  There's still more he can offer.  Really, the reason why he's been kept to this point is simply because of his upside.  If he progresses the way he should, Choi should be a good major league hitter, a starting 1B/DH/LF.   But you don't just drop him because a week or two into the season, he hast done anything yet (he's managed one start so far, not much opportunity yet).  Regardless, I'm very excited to see Ortega up and with the team.  He's either a good 4th OF or an under-rated starting LF.

That's not how Rule 5 works.... He is offered back to the team that we got him from. Now, they can decline at which point he goes through the waiver process or we could trade for him for cash considerations or the PTBNL....And then toss him on the Salt Lake roster for the year.

Except Choi was signed as a minor league FA this year before the Rule 5 draft. This means that if the Angels drop him, he'd be a free agent.

CJ has got to figure this out!!!!  This is getting old..... I've still seen some Great swings and some swings like it's his first at bat in the Bigs!

Choi is wasting a spot offer him back or call the Team we got him from and offer them Cash or a PTBNL... And move him to AAA so he can get some consistent ab's. Otherwise we are screwing to players and two spots on our roster with both Choi and CJ..
