CJ Wilson and Tyler Skaggs likely to start season on DL

Recommended Posts

Skaggs has less trade value than ever at this point.  This is boiler plate injury management of a young player coming off TJ surgery for a team with SP depth.  Nothing to see here otherwise.

My theory on Wilson is that he could be pitching if he really wanted to but he knows that he's a trade candidate relative to his contract and proximity to free agency yet wants to stay with the halos.  So he's milking his shoulder and he's gonna skip spring so he doesn't get moved.

Kinda surprising that Skaggs won't be ready.  He's approaching 19 months since surgery.  He won't be throwing 200 innings anyway, so no big deal.

The Angels need production from at least one of these pitchers if they are going to compete.

I think they want to take it slow with him. I don't think they do or should expect him to pitch 7 or 8 months straight.

This entire ordeal with Skaggs and his elbow going on 19 months and still possibly starting the season on DL doesn't really install confidence.

Or...  they are trying to game the system given all the guys that have been added to the organization by taking a guy they know they intend to keep around and sending him on a two week rehab assignment to start the season while they evaluate people they are less sure of.

But that might require a person to assume they might have a clue what they are doing instead of the usual narrative that they are morons.
