We wouldn't be able to afford to keep anyone else on the roster, aside from Trout, after a few years, so they'd need to build a hell of a farm team stat!

But for a year or two it'd br killer.

True, but you still have to keep the win-now image because you don't want to waste Trout's peaking years.

According to Jon Heyman, Eppler is interested in Asdrubal Cabrera at 3B.

If Eppler doesn't want any production out of 3B then why not let Cowart or Kubitza get consistent playing time and develop as our future third baseman?

Is there any difference between him and Freese?  Except that maybe we could get him cheaper.

Arte needs to go all 2004 on us. Sign Zimmerman, Fister, Heyward, and Chris Davis.

im not saying it should be those guys, but i agree he needs to open the wallet and go back to his old ways.

We can argue that his old ways got us in this mess, with the pujols and hamilton contracts, and that would be a fair point. But IMO, you cant try and buy your way to a ring, then stop trying because that investment was bad.

Again, im not demanding we sign THE top prize, but we are going to have to buy at least two bats and some bullpen help. Spend some of that tv deal money...

Meaning not signing them when ALREADY declining.

Are those the only kind of big money contracts we are going to give out anymore?

Even Pujols was beginning to decline in 2011.   Yes, the OPS was .907.   It also was some 100 pts under what he had been doing until 2011.

Hamilton was showing declining signs in 2012 (big two months slump, terrible last 10 days of season).

Cespedes and Heyward did not decline in 2015.

Of the big 4, Upton and Heyward seem most appealing to me because age is at least on their side. There at least feels like a chance that they'd improve or at least play to their averages over the bulk of the contract.

Upton's a righty and that'd help him in Anaheim (not to mention all the games we play in TEX and HOU) and he's young enough that we'd have him in his prime, and with Heyward even if he remained the same ballplayer with no improvement, he'd still be a good cornerstone player. Decent average, pop, OBP, defense, speed. Over that contract he could shuffle between OF positions as the team needed, or bat different parts of the line-up as the team needed. He's so multi-dimensional in so many ways - his skill-set, positions, batting order placement - that he'd be worth the money there.
