Mookie Betts' Almost Catch HR

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of things I don't get. He took two steps after catching the ball before he hoped over the fence. It didn't look like it was going over.

why wasn't it an out? It look like he clearly had it under control. Then he jumps over the fence.

He did clearly show boat it.

am I mis-reading it?

Rule reads you have to take the ball out of the glove ... is what I heard.

Yeah they said that you have to show control of the ball all the way until you take it out of your glove. I have never heard that rule before, I've seen calls go totally against that too so it caught me off guard. Looked like a catch to me. I also didn't think he was showboating I thought his momentum carried him into the wall I just didn't understand why he tried to hurdle the fence.

He wasn't even running all that fast either so I don't see why he would have to jump over the wall. It looks like even a soft crash to the short wall, he would have been fine. Showboating made him drop the ball over the fence, he deserved it.

Honestly, I was a fan of the call. He had the ball in his glove, but after, he never hit the ground, was a dumbass and decided to "wollop" over the wall for no apparent reason, then dropped it when he did a flip over the wall and landed straight on his neck/head. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, it was downright dumb of him to leap. If he stayed in the field of play, not only would he have not hurt himself nearly as much (word is he had a concussion) and he also would have had the out.

The showboating cost him. No problem with that. Being on the BoSux doesn't help his cause.
