remember when the angels were the siberia of baseball? how about that pitcher( i think it was jack lazorko) who had a better move to first than he did to the plate?

the whole lockeroom gun incident with alex johnson?

for many years this team was a permanent second division joke. and how about the old LA times  sports page feature article "The curse of Anaheim"?

i never imagined in my lifetime to see the angels win a world championship. truly, anything is possible.

guess im just trying to decrease my expectations for this current bunch.

For those of you saying that the Angels never before had one of the biggest payrolls, do yourself a favor and look at the kind of money Gene Autry spent on this franchise over the year in comparison to other clubs of the era. When Free Agency started, the Angels were among the first to start plunking down high dollar contracts. Between 1979 and 1988 the Angels had one of the highest paid players in baseball each year, often times a few of them. It nearly bankrupted Gene. He had to start selling off large pieces of his estate just to keep the team afloat. That's not speculation either. The Autry's freely admitted as much.

Yes. Rudi, Jackson, Lynn, Grich, Baylor, Carew, DeCinces - those players were expensive for the day.

This team almost makes me miss the good old days like the 1968 Angels.

Rick Reichardt led the team in all offensive categories with a .720 OPS and 73 RBIs.

Minnie Rojas was the closer with a 4.25 ERA and 6 saves.

Good times.

1992. I've been an Angels fan since '78. That was the only season where I knew on opening day that they had absolutely no shot of making the post season. Von Hayes in RF batting 3rd and Hubie Brooks DH batting clean up. Minnesota and the Oakland Roiders still in their prime years. Because of the pitching, that team actually started out 8-6.
