So yeah, about that letter the republicans sent to Iran...

Recommended Posts

Anybody here think it was OK or defensible in any way?  Keep in mind that "somebody else did something vaguely like that before" is a third-grade-level argument.  I'm not surprised at all that it was done, but I still think it was a pretty shitty thing to do and I hope it continues to backfire like a mother****er on the idiots that did it (and are now trying to, of course, blame Obama for it or pretend it was just a joke).

Meh.  It was stupid, unthinkable, arrogant and irresponsible.  It isn't treason unless Pelosi goes with them for her visit to Syria a few years ago.

and no, it isn't defensible, at all.

But you just tried to defend it, and by using the "somebody else (an individual) did it first" argument.  That said...I don't think it's treason but it's pretty damn close.  I don't think the republicans would have been OK with a group of 47 democrats sending a letter to Iraq during the Gulf War.  If it's not acceptable for the other guys to do it, it isn't acceptable for you to do it.

I didn't defend the act at all.  Just the idea it is treason.

I think a lot of things Obama does are awful and undefensible.  That doesn't mean I think they were treasonous.

I will say this, just because you try to disqualify an argument doesn't really make it disqualified.

I agree with this. They may not like what Obama is doing but there are systems set up and this isn't one of them.

Seriously. The "letter" is grandstanding political crap. You can send the same message through public appearances or on TV

Each branch of government taking turns seeing how it can ignore separation of powers.

Cooperation between branches at all-time low.

Ya no kidding, it is getting really absurd.  I don't see the cooperation needle pointing back up anytime soon.  We are doomed.

yes adam, but when private citizens attempt to negociate treatys with a foreign government, its a violation of federal statute(the logan act) which they tried to get stokely carmichael on when he went to north viet nam.

the best way to deal with any treaty the president negotiates is not to ratify it in the senate, which is their constitutional duty/right/privilege.

to send a letter is yet another log of on the "we hate this president and won't cooperate with him" fire. of course, the president has been doing the same to congress via his executive orders, so we have a tit-for-tat going on.

How are Obama's executive orders different from those of any other president, and how do they in any way excuse what these Republicans did?

barry's immigration plan and the bypassing of congress in the process immediately come to mind.

i have no issue with executive orders, but the hatred by the repubs against this prez is so strong, they're taking matters into their own hands. it's a giant pissing match.
