If gasoline correlated directly to oil, we'd be paying more like 93 cents a gallon right now.

With sanctions coming off in Iran, should't that mean even more oil on the market?

The oil companies better get with it and break something nearly un-fixable at their refineries, or gas might fall below a dollar.

I always thought cold weather areas paid more for gas in the winter because they put additives in it. It this true?

I don't think so.  I think that is a CA thing where they change the gas from summer to winter.

Gas prices fell below $1 in Michigan

 

 

At some Michigan gas stations on Sunday, drivers could buy a gallon of gas for a couple of quarters – and still get change back.

 

The uber low prices – recorded as low as 47 cents at one station in Houghton Lake – appeared to be the result of a local price war. Photographs of several stations showed prices below $1, FOX2 reported.

Just came from a road trip to Virginia, where I filled my rental car for $1.74 and I saw prices as low as $1.67.

well the problem is that in SoCal we live so bloody far away from the refineries. It's not like we're in Kansas where there are oil ships lined up at their seaports right and left, and can thus keep their prices way down.

 

i hate living in remote, isolated SoCal. Not even el nino can seem to find us.

Where's the bottom?? They're talking about $18 soon. Worldwide glut and more coming into the market from Iran.

Seems that in the old days (pre-2010), every $24 of barrel price = $1 of gas.

In SoCal now, it's more like $2.25 of gas per every $24 of barrel price.

Was thinking earlier today how California's gas prices have barely moved while oil has plummeted. Won't surprise me at all if our prices soar when oil goes up in price even a moderate amount.

After weeks of relentless downward pressure on oil prices, we now have a two-day rally and the price is jumping. I would expect gas prices to soar now. That's what generally happens. When oil is plunging, gas prices inch down ever so slowly. Then when we have a short-term jump in oil price, gasoline soars.
