Trout Wins Hank Aaron Award

Recommended Posts

Scotty, no offense, but you do realize the award is supposed to go to best hitter, right? Victor Martinez was at least as good a hitter as Trout this year. Trout is a fine choice, but I only said "probably deserved" - it is very close, close enough for a reasonable thinking human being not to freak out about if it had gone the other way.

i would go so far as to say Martinez deserved to win the award

Yeah, VMart deserved some serious consideration. The guy had an incredible offensive year but he's probably getting points deducted for being DH only.

This should matter for MVP but not for the Hank Aaron award. But then again, in theory the Gold Gloves have nothing to do with hittting, either.

Well deserved! Martinez wouldn't have been a bad choice but Trout slightly edged him in the wRC+ department.

However, Trout plays a physically demanding position and gets banged up a lot more over the course of a season than a big plodding DH does. Health matters when it comes to offensive production.

sometimes I feel like this board remembers Trout's 2014 season as if he hit .260 and brought a bucket of KFC out to CF with him

Well if you saw what Hank Aaron did in 1957 when he was 23 years old this award would have to be re-named the "Not Quite Hank Aaron Award".

Congrats to Mike Trout. MVP is next.
