Texas-bound? Raiders reportedly meet with San Antonio about relocation

The city built the Alamo Dome years ago in hopes of landing an NFL franchise. The Saints looked set to move there then backed away.

Even if the Raiders make a deal with San Antonio, there still would be several hurdles to climb. Davis would need the approval of at least 24 of the team's 32 owners and would need to justify why it would be beneficial to the league to move from the No. 6 media market to the 36th.

The rules must have really changed from the days when the Irsays pulled the Colts out of Baltimore literally in the middle of the night, and Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore.

When I was growing up In Jacksonville, the owners of several teams looking for new stadiums in their own cities visited Jacksonville because with the size of the metropolitan area, a long history of supporting football and a 70,000 seat stadium already in place, the city was a viable enough threat for teams' current cities to sit up and take notice. The rally thrown for Colts' owner Robert Irsay, who eventually moved his team to Indianapolis, was the biggest blowout of the bunch. Over the years the owners of the Colts, Oilers, Broncos, Falcons, Saints and Vikings all toyed with the idea - at least publicly. The Colts and Oilers did move, and the others all got new stadiums in their current cities. Supposedly this was one big reason why the city was awarded an expansion franchise in 1995, because the city had been a "good friend to the league."

One of the local sports talk radio guys raised the possibility (when Al Davis was still alive) that Davis might move the Raiders to Las Vegas just to piss off the commissioner. This was when the NFL was having a stroke over anything involving gambling, and they began refusing Las Vegas tourism advertising.
