Orange County Register: Angels Afterthoughts: Ode to Kevin Jepsen

Recommended Posts

Jepsen didn't pitch well at all. He was saved by two great catches. If either one of those wasn't caught (especially Green's spectacular play), the game would have probably been lost. Scioscia constantly mismanages the BP. Morin came in and retired the side on 11 pitches. Why oh why wasn't he allowed to pitch the next inning? It would probably Have prevented Salas coming in and using either Smith or Frieri. Scioscia refuses to let players doing well continue to do well, either hitters or pitchers. His style is obsolete and, in my opinion he has outlived his worth for this team.

I get that Greene made that diving catch but it's hardly like that ball was crushed. It was a flair off the end of the bat. So if Jepsen lucky for getting out of it then he would have been unlucky if that flair fell in. That being said I don't trust him in high level situations, last night was not a high level situation.

Scioscia only looks at the end result, Jepsen got two outs.

I thought you guys didn't like when Scioscia said stuff like "ball was coming out of his hand good" or "he's hitting the ball hard," because all that matters is results?

Yes Jepsen did get a little lucky in this particular game. The point of the item was to show how well he's pitched -- I mean how good his results have been -- over nearly two months.

I get that he's got a career track record that shows he's probably not going to blossom I to a closer or anything. But the talk of releasing him now is ridiculous. Ride him while he's hot.

I totally agree Jeff.

Personally I'd rather have Jepsen at this stage than Salas. Bedrosian > Salas.

I have to admit he's pitched pretty well lately.  All 8 of his er have come in 2 outings where he gave up a three run hr in each and those games were pretty much already blowouts so they didn't really affect the outcome.  In two other outings he sealed the deal for the loss.  But he's stranded 13 of his last 16 runners.  Using him as a Rhed specialist seems to be the key.  He can face light hitting lefties and righties but just say no to any lefty that could potentially leave the yard.  In essence, he still scares the crap out of me and with all of oakland's lefties, he should be used sparingly in this series.
