Guys, I'm starting to get this funny feeling that this bullpen is bad

Cool, Frieri was removed from blowing the lead in the 9th so now he can blow it in the 7th. That still doesn't allow you to just remove his outings from the conversation. I mean you can do whatever you want for your own argument but it still makes zero sense.

Now you are talking about the last 5 losses altogether as if that has anything to do with this conversation. Nobody has said it's all the pen's fault but that's another great strawman. You must have a farm by now.

The offense has given the team a chance to win on most nights. If the pen blows it and the offense can't respond why in the name of all things sane would you blame the offense?

Also I'm perfectly content today. I know you like to lump everyone who has anything negative to say in the same group as people who "wallow" in negativity all day, but I can safely say I am in a decent mood today.

The big problem comes when we face good pitching. Our offense is solid, but the nature of the game dictates that even our good lineup will struggle against a good starting pitcher. We gave Tanaka his worst outing of the year last night and managed to scratch across two runs. Those are the types of games we will see when we face good teams with good pitching.

These are the games where our pen, our lack of execution, and our starters inability to pitch deep into games will continue to bite us. If we face a Tanaka and manage put two runs on the board this team is still going to lose even when we get a great performance out of Garret Richards. This team is going to lose because even if the starting pitching is good everyone else on the defensive side of the ball is going to make enough mistakes for the opponent to put three runs on the board.

We saw it last night. Richard makes one mistake pitch to Texieria. The bullpen actually does "OK" but gives up a run on a walk, wild pitch and bad defense (in the only inning they had to pitch). We score two runs but could've had a couple more with a big hit.

And this is the problem. Even at our best we are allowing 1, 2, or 3 runs per night and really good pitching isn't going to spot us 4 runs very often. This is my concern with this team going forward. When the games are big, and the moments important other teams are gona buckle down, runs will be tight and we are going to expect this bullpen to be perfect, and this defense to not make mistakes...
