Pena was very good last year and has started well this year although he was struck by a line drive and is out for a start.

Pena was 24 years old and walking 5 runners per 9 in AA -- those are the sorts of numbers that don't translate well to MLB.  The one thing he was very very good at was limiting HRs which was no small task in his home park.  He was howerver off to a very fast start this year, it will be interesting to see if he can maintain the early pace.  I've watched Pena pitch a lot, if he ever gains any semblance of control with his slider (a plus pitch), he'd have a decent enough chance to stay a SP.  But he will need more to succeed at the next level than just his upper 90s FB and heavy sinker.    Ariel Pena might be one of those guys who turns into a solid pitcher at age 27 or 28 after he's lost a bit of stuff.
