There is one in the city kind of near me - agreed I can't believe they're still around.

I remember going there as a kid buying parts for my g33k electronics projects.

me: i need some more variable capacitors

guy: are you making a cable tv descrambler?

me: ... yes

guy: cool. they're over here.

Those were the days!

Went in the other day for a garage remote battery I couldn't find. It was empty, but had a shitload of batteries. They also had just about very phone and provider at pretty good deals.

They must be doing big phone volume.

I remember one year money was tight around Christmas and we got Radio Shack gifts. Things like remote control cars that only went in reverse and turned right.

yes those cheapo RC cars were the best.

i got an RC spider from there once. it was so random but so fun.

also got my buddy an RC helicopter (what everyone now are calling "drones"). first time we used it we lost signal when it got too high and it ended up flying out onto the 5. never saw it again.

Tank: Try Brooklyn Battery Works. I find them far below just about anyone else, and they carry pretty much any type of batteries you could want. On watch/electronic batteries their prices are unbeatable. I paid 50 cents each for batteries that were $5.00 each at Radio Shack and Target. I have also bought telephone batteries from them, and a backup battery for my home security system.
