Obamacare/Trumpcare Horror Stories

Recommended Posts

Don't get me wrong, healthcare expenses are way up.  Especially on RX and emergency services.  With the implementation of Obamacare it really empowered the RX companies and Hospitals to increase their costs a ton when renegotiating their contracts with insurers.  There are no regulations surrounding it.

Yeah, prices are going up this year.  In 2016 a lot more of the mandates in ACA/HCR go into effect.  Many of them are very expensive.

Also, as I previously mentioned, while ACA requires this stuff to be covered by insurers, there is nothing regulating how much doctors/medical groups/hospitals can charge for it so as they are renegotiating their contracts they are raising the cost of these services a ton.

Besides the explanation for the rate hike makes no sense.

Healthier lives = increased medical costs?

Many of the "preventive care" services are now free, such as colonoscopies, other cancer screenings, immunizations, etc. In my policy, the annual physical and all associated lab tests are free of charge. No co-pays, no deductible. So the national push for healthier lives comes at a cost. The reasoning here is that in the long run, it will cost far less to find a serious illness in the early stages and treat it. Cancer treatment can run into the millions, literally. Catch it early and the insurance companies save big time.

One thing that is happening a lot now that is causing Obamacare and insurers to lose a ton of money is:

When you sign up you can put whatever amount you want for your income.  If you put a super low amount you could have your entire premium subsidized.  CMS does income verification in the following months and if they determine you lied about your income they change your subsidy to 0 but not retroactively.  At this point the members just don't pay and are terminated for non payment 30 days later retroactive to the date they lost their subsidy.  Since it takes about 90 days before CMS verifies, this member essentially got free care for three months.  Then they go and sign up with another issuer doing the exact same thing.  Rinse repeat.  CMS doesn't do anything to stop them from continuing to sign up and do the same thing.  They also have no plans of changing that.

Their entire model if riddled with bad decisions like this that hemorrhage money.  Which is why government run healthcare is such a bad idea.

i feel like we've all been getting a lot of colonoscopies from the current administration for almost 7 years.

One-Third Of Obamacare Co-Ops Are Now Officially Dead

One-third of the Obamacare health insurance co-ops have now failed, causing about 400,000 policyholders in 10 states to scramble for new coverage for 2016.

Seven of the 23 co-ops created by the Affordable Care Act in 2011 at a cost of $2.4 billion — including many launched by passionate but inexperienced health reform activists —  have since closed their doors. An eighth, the Colorado Health Insurance Cooperative, appears on the brink of default as well.

The failing Obamacare co-ops have canceled health insurance for largely poor and low-income customers in Iowa, Nebraska, Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisiana, Nevada, Tennessee, Vermont, New York and Colorado.

Including Colorado, taxpayers have lost $876 million in loan money that was supposed to last for 15 years. The failed co-op’s existed for only two years before suddenly closing their doors.

New York’s Health Republic, the largest of the co-ops, announced it was closing its doors last month, leaving 155,000 customers in the lurch.

The New York failure was not only the largest, but was the flagship of the co-op movement. It was created by liberal political activist Sarah Horowitz, who had previously worked with then-state Sen. Barack Obama.

Rates for Obamacare to rise sharply in 2016. Double-digit increases across the nation. These are from administration figures.

The Silver plans will rise an average of 13%, and Bronze plans will increase 16%.

Some states will get hit even harder. Silver plans in Oklahoma will increase 44%. Other states will actually see decreases in rates.
