Is anyone worried....

Recommended Posts

Why is a 22 year old worried about getting a ring?  All I am saying is that no one knows how the Angels will be playing in 2018.  For anyone who tries to make up stories that Trout is going to the Yankees is stupid.

Getting the World Series ring is always important to ballplayers.  That has been their dream since they were kids.

That said, my point was that teams like the Angels, Yankees, Dodgers and so on are all going to be willing to offer Trout a top dollar contract.  That being the case, Trout will go with the better organization.  He will go to the team that he feels has the best chance to win.

with Trout being back in the Tri state area, in Yankee stadium, back with family/friends in the area, etc?

All this stuff doesn't factor with somebody when free agency rolls around, right?

I'm sure management will come to something long term with Trout before free agency is even an option, at least I hope so.

This isn't the stuff I'd like to see.

Some things not in Trout's favor:

1)  He isn't 32 + years with declining numbers

2)  He hasn't been making millions previously

3) His best years were not with another team.

4)...therefore it is impossible to pay and reward him for what he has produced for another franchise.

In Angel Land that makes it near impossible to get signed to a lucrative contract. By the time he is eligible for free agency, he will only have produced big numbers (and they will be big numbers) with the Angels and will still be young. We get rid of those types of players. Give your best years to another team, and Arte and Company will roll out the carts full of money.

It's not really a question of "worrying about Trout" it's just an intriguing story line for sports fans.  Of course Angels fans would like to see Trout remain with the team.  But as we're seeing this year, having Trout on the team isn't enough.  So throwing money at Trout doesn't guarantee that the Angels will win, or even finish above .500.  You could argue that for the same amount of money it would cost to lock Trout up in a multi-year deal, the Angels could pay several players and the team might actually be better.

The bigger question is, if/when Trout leaves, what will the Angels get in return?

That is an interesting question.  Personally, I think the Angels will lock him up, but if for some reason they don't, they will have to trade him instead of just letting him walk.

There are two things that must happen so that Trout will stay with the Angels.

1. When it is time to offer the money for the big contract, they need to do so. Arte has proven with Pujols and Hamilton that he is more than willing to pay the $$$. When it comes time to offer Trout that contract, Arte will have no problem spending the $$$ it will take to keep him here.

2. This team has to turn it around. I'm not saying they need to win it all every year, but they need to be a playoff contender every year. Trout knows that whoever signs him will be giving him a huge contract, the question will be which team gives him the best shot at WS ring?

The Angels need to start working on #2 this offseason.

The Rangers and As aren't going away. Seattle has a really good set of young pitchers and a massive budget to spend on an offense. Houston is primed to be a World Series contender starting in 2016.

We have the worst farm system in baseball and two of te worst contracts in professional sports through at least 2017. We also have Wells and $20 million on the books next year.

Arte better be ready to start paying the luxury tax to remain a playoff threat.

This.

With the way things are going the Los Angeles Cubs Angels are on their way to *regularly* finishing in the AL West cellar despite having one of the highest payrolls in baseball.
