What is the current Pen?

Recommended Posts

Soriano is in BP for me. So much depth and Kolarek, Plesac not even mentioned. If Cimber can return to his 2021 and 22 numbers could make this one of top BP in game. Joyce may even start year in minors. So many options with Minasian last 2 additions. Another starter on short deal that I Ilike is Clevenger.

Would it be irresponsible to pick up another lefty that can pitch high leverage innings to further bolster this pen? Whether it be trade or FA I think it would be smart to pick up another lefty to go with Moore so he doesn’t get overworked as he tended to be last year with us in the first half of the year. Maybe Peralta for 6-7mill (Peralta had a 2.15 era in innings 7-9 last year)

Don’t sleep on the lefty we grabbed in the Stassi + Fletcher deal. Tyler Thomas had a great year in AAA/Indy ball. He’s no vet, not a proven commodity, but looks intriguing enough to deserve a shot.

His AAA numbers were terrible (26 baserunners in 12 innnings).  AA and Indy were very good.  Hard to make too much (good or bad) out of his year last year, though, given the limited innings.

Here's what I have now:

  1. Estevez (R)
  2. Stephenson (R)
  3. Moore (L)
  4. Garcia (R)
  5. Cimber (R)
  6. Joyce (R)
  7. Soriano (R)
  8. Suarez (L)

And then in AAA

  1. Wantz
  2. Plesac
  3. Kolarek
  4. Ingram
  5. Mederos
  6. Herget (if not waived)
  7. Caceres
  8. Thomas

Wandy Peralta does have mostly solid bullpen stats the past 2 seasons.   Control suffered some in 2023, but is somewhat stingy on hits allowed.
