I would be much more interested to see what Jo Adell is capable of over a full season for the MLB minimum than making a $200m commitment to Bellinger.  .240 and 25HR from Adell seems like a possibility with a full season of ABs

Im in the camp that we aren’t competing in 2024 save for an unprecedented streak of good health, career years and home run FA signings. As such, let Adell, Moniak and Ward play it out. See what you have and look to improve the OF in 2025 if the need still exists.  All those guys have the potential to be average to above average regulars. Give them a chance… there is nothing to lose at this point.

Jo currently would be the starting DH, with Moniak and Ward being better defenders. Signing Bellinger frees up one for a trade.

Yes, but your plan and comparing it to the $200 million that Belinger is getting paid ignores the year to year budget.  You can’t simply say, “take the $200 million you were going to give to Belinger and spend $200 million on these guys who will have 3 year deals”.  One costs you $20-25 million annually, while the other is $65-70 million a year.

Yes but many on 1 year deals and not more than 3. Give flexibility for coming years. Depth is what this team needs now to even have a chance to compete.

Angels signing Bellinger would be like the Rockies signing Ian Desmond. Just a dumb unserious team trying to spend money on anyone that will talk to them in the hopes of pretending to their fans that they're trying to win.

Like ok, we can sign no one and win 65 games or we can sign Bellinger and Snell and win 71 games but the optics will be slightly better to the most casual tier of fans who don't pay attention to wins and losses. Classic Arte move.

If you think the angels are going to win 65 games next year, you are being dumb and unserious.

I think the team would be best off adding a starting outfielder AND a DH. Moniak and Adell on the bench.

Moniak’s gonna regress. Adell is still a question mark.

Trout will get hurt not sure about Ward with his injury. Rengifo, Calhoun and Marisnick will be OF early June. Maybe Perry can bring back Kole Calhoun. Calhoun in LF Marisnick in CF and Calhoun in RF.

Rockies trading/dumping Arenado and then signing Kris Byrant has to be the worst sequence in MLB history.

I say go for it and add Bellinger, Snell, Imanaga and Hicks and Moore. Fuck it. You aren't gonna win if you don't open the check book. There are no significant upgrades coming from the farm in the next 2 seasons.

24-25 MLB Free Agents include Pete Alonso, Wily Adames, Bregman, and a lot of pitchers. No one that exciting.

That’d be cool, but it’s not happening.

Open checkbook that is what Pujols, Wells, Hamilton, Upton, Rendon have said for years.

Both sides believe he can recoup some value in 2023 — the health aspect is big, but there’s familiarity in the organization for Bellinger. Assistant hitting coach Johnny Washington was a coach in the Dodgers minor league system from 2009 through 2015 and was the Padres hitting coach in 2019, when the two were in the NL West.

“J-Wash, we’ve been in close contact since he was with the Dodgers,” Bellinger said. “He’s just an intelligent guy and loves baseball. He’s known me since I was 17, 18 years old.”
