What is Reid Detmers' Future? (Potential Overreaction)

It's so easy to jump to conclusions when you have limited personal data.  Deters is hot and cold, the consistency is not there - yet!  This is probably the case with most young players.  But I really, really like the potential when he gets on a run.  This is someone they shouldn't give up on.

Typically he stands up for 4 innings, then proceeds to sit down and do a potty in the 5th.

Young pitcher still learning his craft only he's doing it at the MLB level.  He's not one of the problems IMO.

Reminds me of Lackey.

He's a control over command guy still, who often makes too many bad pitches with 2 strikes(not all strikes are good strikes). Gotta get better at locating and just making better decisions overall. The secondaries are great, the FB velo ticked up but he needs to command it up in the zone consistently to be effective with it.

All of this! The problem has been up on the box Trax or whatever they call it. The top of the strike zone is at the belt!

And where he needs to locate up in the zone would be chest up as a show or chase pitch. Then go back down with his slider or fastball down and out.

The frustrating part is you see it a handful of starts then he just melts down.  And it looks like he doesn't have a plan at attacking a hitter.

He has the ability and repertoire obviously! He needs to be much more consistent with all of his offerings.

I get the inconsistency due to his early call-up. But, there still has to be consistent growth in his game annually. Currently, the only consistency he has shown is that he's wildly inconsistent.

You would expect some mentorship/leadership of the young guys in the rotation as well from the Veteran Lefties on the team all season those guys would be either Anderson or Moore.
