Game Time @ Boston Monday

Why is the game at Boston on Monday April 17th starting at 11:10 AM?

The Angels play @ NYY on Tuesday with  7:05 PM.

Boston is still a Home on Tuesday starting @ 7:10 PM.

Fiying from Bos to JFK is less than 200 miles.  The reason cannot be travel time, so why wouldn't they start the game at 1 PM?

Doesn't MLB know how many West Coast fans are going to miss the game?

It’s probably a drinking holiday in Boston.  They wanna get the game over with so they can get wasted later.

Downtown is chaos on marathon day, and it's a point of pride for Bostonians to line the route to support the runners - can't imagine why they scheduled a home game that day.

I agree that it seems insane to have a game that day but they do it every year and make it part of the whole city-wide celebration

i am not looking forward to trying to get around Boston that day.

Yeah, just thought they'd have it at a normal time, after the runners had finished.  But the finish line isn't that close to Fenway, so its manageable.

Come to think of it, Iirc, the year my girlfriend ran, there was a runner's party after the race at Fenway, so maybe that's the intent?

(btw, stayed at the Verb recently - their bar/restaurant has some really solid Asian/Korean food, if that's your jam)

yep. here's the explanation from wikipedia for those of you who don't know.

Patriots' Day is an annual event, formalized as a legal holiday or a special observance day in six states, commemorating the battles of Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy, some of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.
