Has anyone ever had a bout with this, or know someone who has?

I had a roommate suddenly come down with it. He just woke up 1 day with half his face numb. Took him close to a year to get back to normal.

Yup. It's related to chicken pox. Doesn't last forever.

My son came down with it when he was two, scared the hell out of us. It took him about a month for the effects to wear off with no long term side effects.

Doc just said I had it. Got a shot in my ass of Roids and have to take 6 a day, plus three antiviral pills a day to kick this. Doc said mine is more mild than others, should get better after 7-14 days. 

 

Frustrating as hell. Went to gargle my mouthwash in the morning and it all squirted out of the right side of my mouth. I was like, WTF?. 

 

Weird. When I talk it looks like Drew Barrymore or Mickey (the trainer from the movie Rocky). F! My right eyeball can close, but it doesn't blink, so it gets dry and/or watery from the drops.

Mine wasn't droopy, but it was like someone gave me a ton of Novocaine to the right side of my mouth and is taping eyeball open. Weird. You can't even tell I have this until I start talking or if I try to smile.

My sister had it a few years ago. We thought she had a stroke but were relieved it was Bell's Palsy.

Same here. I have a family history of stroke, so I was frightened and thought the worst.

A buddy of mine had it and half his face was numb.  His first thought when it happened was that he had a stroke as well which scared the crap out of him.  For quite a while when he talked part of his mouth didn't move and that was really the only time you could tell.  Took a while to fully recover but he did.

Make sure your MD had your blood checked cor Lyme Disease. A good portion of my clients have BP as one of their Lyme symptoms. You do not want Lyme to go untreated or else you are in for a long road to recovery.

Sorry to sound so negative, but we see this all the time as the reason people discover they have Lyme.

Fact: #1 cause of Bell's Paulsy is from having sex with patio furniture.

So you don't have Bell's Palsy, you have Bill's Palsy.

I had it about 7-10 years ago. I was told the quicker they catch it, the quicker the healing. But each case/person is unique. It took about a month to fully go away.

 

In hindsight, the biggest problem (besides the stress of the unknown) was dealing with the mental effects of the steroids. I locked my keys in my car twice the first week I was on them.

Yep. She had it about a month ago, it went away, and it randomly came back yesterday during the afternoon. Not sure how common it is for someone to have it more than one time.

I asked my sister what caused her bell's palsy and she told me the doctor said it was due to stress.

When I had BP, I was either told or read on the internet that the most likely person to get BP is someone who has already had it. I have on occasion had pressure in the nerve (the #7 nerve I think they called it), but have never had it reoccur.
