loathe - the new owner being the guy who won the power ball

If reports are accurate, the powerball winner is going home with “only” around $650 million.

How about "Logical", "Levelheaded" or "Lifelike"?

Seriously, a few of you are living in a false sense of reality. Like you must really believe in Willie Wonka's great glass elevator.

It's silly.

Yeah I have a hard time believing that the Angels can afford one of the top tier SS on the FA market and have money leftover to extend Ohtani at some point.

Next years free agent class isn’t great. There’s no guarantee that Ohtani is coming back. The best way to convince him to come back is to improve the team. If you sign a great SS then the worse case scenario is you have a great SS and Ohtani walks. If you save money to sign Ohtani but don’t improve at SS then the worst case scenario is you don’t have a good SS and Ohtani walks. They have to improve the team to keep him and you figure out the Ohtani money later.

Absolutely this.  The priority should be Ohtani.  Ohtani isn't holding this team hostage - he isn't saying, "you must spend 35+ mil on a SS or I'm gone."  The team needs to be a winner long-term, and signing another guy on the wrong side of 30 (or just about there) to a 7+ year deal is a guaranteed way for this team to continue to be non-contenders long-term.

The best route, as a lot of us are saying, is to acquire a SS via trade and let the prospects develop and take over with time.  Soto looked surprisingly promising in his brief cameo appearance.  Neto has strong reviews and is already in AA.  Those guys will be part of the solution.  We just need to bridge the gap to them, which means finding a SS for a year or two until they're truly ready.

The worst case scenario, unfortunately, is the same scenario we have seen play out for this team every time we do this - the pricey FA acquisition breaks down and is a shell of their former self for the bulk of the contract.  Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, Rendon ..

I would consider this move if we didn't have Neto, but we just spent our top pick on a SS that isn't too far from being ready.  Minasian's pedigree suggests he is very much a draft and develop guy, I would be shocked if he just scrapped his plan, signed a FA SS to a huge deal, and effectively rendered Neto somewhat of a wasted pick (or more likely, just trade bait).

ok then why worry about signing Ohtani long term?
