Yadier Molina HOF?

So, every Hall of Fame entry is based upon the player's accomplishments in the years they played, not held to untouchable standards of past players. It is how good they were in comparison to players of their time and Yadier Molina was better than any during this and the previous decade.

I hope that answered your in depth question.

I wasn’t questioning Yadier’s HOF qualifications.

Not according to Fangraphs.

Ozzie Smith: 67.6 WAR in 2573 games.

Yadier Molina: 55.7 WAR in 2226 games.

Also, catchers have shorter careers, so you really should judge them against each other. Molina is 10th all-time in WAR, which makes him around the level where players become borderline. Ahead of him is Bill Dickey, behind him Russell Martin.

If Yadier Molina is such a sure fire hall of famer, shouldn't Russell Martin be a hall of famer too? Molina has 55.7 career WAR, Martin had 55.0.

Why is Molina a HOF player and Martin not?

To be honest... I didn't and I'm not going to do a deep dive into their careers and statistics.  It was just my gut response. Hall of "Fame" - means different things to different people.  I've often heard Molina referred to as a future HOFer.... I don't think I've heard that for Martin.  He'll be eligible in a few years, so we'll see.

If you were looking for someone to debate this with... you have the wrong guy.  I don't really argue these things.

It's like Brandon said earlier... when Harold Baines went in, it took away some of the prestige, IMO.

This is an interesting question.  I'm surprised the WAR numbers are as close as they are for the two players.  Molina is going to get in because he has the accolades, 10x All-Star, 9x GG, 2 top 5 MVP finishes and played his entire career with a crown jewel franchise and was around a long time and has the counting stats 2000+ hits, 1000+ RBI.

Martin doesn't have any of these things that Molina has.  He bounced around a lot and his career was significantly shorter than Molina's by ~ 600 games caught which is equivalent to about 5 seasons, which is pretty significant for counting stats.  While Molina was considered the premier defensive catcher, Martin wasn't too far behind in terms of Dwar per 162 2.0 vs 1.6.

Fair or not, where you play matters unfortunately for these borderline HOF cases.  It is something that is voted on.
