after watching the men's figure skating finals, they showed the three medalists on the podium where each received a stuff animal and a wreath. they then left the podium to take pictures for all the media assembled there.

what was weird was none of them received their medals and there was no playing of the anthem. what happened to that part?

They did it later.

nathan chen wins gold for the US men in figure skating. i believe he set a new scoring record in the process.

men's snowboard cross is on now. this sport has really grown on me. younger me would've liked giving this a try.

Nathan Chen was amazing.

Jason Brown, while not attempting any quads, had a very artistically perfect performance. In the pre-quad era it probably was medal worthy.

thanks, stick.

i think there are several moments in sports that exceed just playing or winning - walking off 18 at augusta and hugging your family after winning the masters; skating around the ice with the stanley cup; maybe a few others. but i think the greatest possible sports moment would be standing on the podium with a gold medal around your neck and hearing your national anthem being played. i'd bawl like a baby at that point.

What a great story for Lindsey Jacobellis and Nick Baumgartner to team up and win the gold medal in mixed doubles snowboard cross.  Both of these athletes have suffered heart breaking defeat in their Olympic careers and both were finally able to break through.

And both are the oldest US Olympic athletes at the games which makes it even more awesome.  Pretty cool for both of them.

i'm trying to understand why there needs to be style points for the ski jumping contest. I'm coming up empty on the logic behind this unnecessary element. this should be about one thing, pure and simple - distance. i don't care how awesome or how goofy you look while doing it.

I'd go a step further and say that the jumper who flails around while in flight should get bonus points.
