What a shame. I always enjoyed his coverage, which is not something I can typically say. 58 is way too young, seems like we've lost so many this past year.

I agree. He didn't seem to be prone to hyperbole, which seems to be the case with most reporters/announcers these days.

That’s one part of what I really liked about him; the other was what felt like a genuine love for the game. There are many national guys I can’t stand to listen to because it feels like their raison d’être is simply to shit on particular teams and players (Karros, Pierzynski, Gammons). Gomez brought a genuine enthusiasm to what he did and I will miss it.
