Why position players and not pitchers?

So the Angels have a more "hold" attitude than "hit me" one for pitchers essentially?

I think there’s a bit of that, yes. As others have mentioned, they’ve also had some bad luck and some poor decisions on the FA market as well. I think the Angels feel better rolling the dice with their own pitchers rather than invest long-term in a mid-tier guy. As for an ace, well, as Strad noted, a number of those guys had preferred destinations in mind already. The best teams draft and develop their own. The Halos have to get better at that because their track record on the one-year fillers has been bad overall.

It's pretty perplexing. You'd figure the Angels had as much competition for Rendon than for Cole/Bauer. Is that incorrect? Are teams willing to pay a whole lot more for a top starter than a top position player?

The market is usually thin at the top, so it's hard to really come to a general conclusion. It depends on the player and team and circumstances.

But often a top pitcher is high impact on the margins, moreso than a top position player, so that could be part of it
