Optioning Shohei Ohtani to gain an extra year of control

Could the Angels option Shohei Ohtani for a few weeks at the start of the 2021 season to limit the service time he gets and therefore gain an extra year of control? He still has options left, and it would allow him to throw rehab games in the minors to help him build back up.

I know they didn't want to do it back in 2018, but things have changed. It's not like his performance in 2020 proved that he deserves a spot on the opening day roster. Also, Eppler was the one who had a good relationship with Ohtani. With a new GM coming in, that GM isn't going to have the same attachment to Ohtani.

Arte would not allow that- marketing.  Plus he will be great eventually.  I’d love to see the Angels just spend on pitching and hold off on trades involving Adell and Marsh.  Maybe trade cheap for 2b and LF, even an innings eater.  But one good starter and a high-leverage reliever.

It would be seen as the stunt that it would be, and it would only create ill will to try a manipulation like that.

It's funny that some want an extra year of control for a guy some also want to trade or DFA.

that has nothing to do with whether he could get optioned.
