Fresh and Salt, anything but Fly fishing...

Used to have a dream gig as a product manager for a big name rod & reel manufacturer.  Traveled the world fishing for about 15 years.  Product testing, TV shows, marketing vids, bass, walleye, tuna and marlin tourneys, etc.  It was rough.

I only like fresh water stream and river fishing but haven't gone in 10 years. Fly fishing is a great aesthetic art form but it annoys the hell out of me adapting to that casting. That and you have to have local knowledge of hatches to match your fly to the area. My preference is bait fishing.

I got a fishing kayak for Christmas... it's a blast.

Those are fun in the harbors (Newport-Dana) for halibut in the channels and Bay Bass around the docks.

I've pretty much fished all my life. Cattle boats when I was a kid growing up in Huntington Bch. Started doing Baja when I was in my 20's. Commercial fished summers in Alaska. I hold a 100 ton CG masters license. Had a boat in Dana Point for almost 30 years. It's what I do full time now here in Oregon...and I'm actually considering moving farther north because the Salmon are pretty much gone here in Oregon, and the weather and poor harbor design (dangerous bars) prevent access to the open ocean the majority of the time.

Looking at moving to the San Juan Islands..

I am an avid freshwater fisherman. Mostly rivers, lakes and setreams of Northern California.

There's some great places to fish in No. Cal. I envy you.

Why'd you give that up?
