Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig and Alex Wood have been traded to the Cincinnati Reds, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. Homer Bailey is one of the players going back to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The return for the Dodgers clearly will be more.

What do the Reds get out of this? They’re taking on a lot more money and giving up prospects/international money for the right to do so. Just to get rid of Bailey? They like Puig that much?

This is not a cap clearing deal for the Dodgers....

Bailey with his 6.00+ ERA is signed for $23 M in 2019 and $25 M in 2020

 

Wood is Arb 3 eligible and a FA in 2020

Puig is Arb 3 eligible and a FA in 2020

Kemp makes $21.5 million in 2019 and is a FA in 2020

And the Reds are getting another player than the three listed and cash.

The Reds will get another player and some cash in the swap, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic adds on Twitter.

Oh ok thanks. Looking at the tweets, they made it sound like Bailey had only one year left.

Bailey's 2020 is an option with a 5m buyout which will obviously be declined. 

The dogs take on 23m this year, and 5 next year

They get rid of 43m this year.  ie they save 20m this year which means Harper's prorated salary will be around that for the first year.

the reds took on 3 players each with 1yr of control and took on 20m in salary for 2019 to do it.  Plus they gave up a couple solid prospects.  The reds are stupid.
