Do you think the Angels could bring in Kikuchi, Harvey and Ramos and stay around budget?

Kikuchi is a Boras client right?   Providing the guy isn't delusional about what he is worth those three should be totally doable -- they have only spent 2.5 mil plus whatever Bourjos and the other minor league contracts amounted to.

I don't think budget is a concern really, I just think they want the right players and don't want to sign someone w/ a 1st round pick to lose, an over 30 year old arm or go 13 years with Harper/Machado if that indeed is the longevity of their deals the agents are asking for.

So yeah, that's totally doable.

I would love to see this lineup:

2B Rengifo

CF Trout

DH Ohtani

C Ramos

LF Upton

1B Bour/Pujols

SS Simmons

RF Calhoun

3B Cozart/La Stella/Ward

SP: Kikuchi, Heaney, Harvey, Skaggs, Barria.

Harvey should also be a target because obviously he doesn’t have a pick attached.  They need to make something happen tho and soon because eventually the supply is going to start driving up prices.  It’s not like last offseason.

I think it’s fair to be concerned at this point.

I am very disappointed thast Eppler couldn't get anything done during the meetings.  It's not early anymore, though it isn't late yet either. If January 5th rolls around and the Angels still don't have a single starter, then it will begin to strongly appear that Eppler failed this offseason.  But I doubt that'll happen.  He says he was active, so I'm sure he laid the foundation for future deals.  It is becoming increasingly evident that the Angels will be major players for Kikuchi.  And for his services, it's really going to come down to the Angels vs. the Padres.  Really, I think the Angels should be seen as the heavy favorites for him, which would be very exciting.  Come 2020, we'd be rolling with Japan's two best starters in the last half decade.

And as for who our other starting pitcher will be....the free agent market has narrowed so much now that I'm really not sure what Eppler will do.  Gio Gonzalez won't be blowing up any skirts, but I suppose they could do worse.

Letting Shoemaker go may end up being a big mistake

the winter meetings get treated like a swap meet. is that all that actually happens at these yearly gatherings or do they conduct other business that never gets noticed because of all the emphasis on player movement?

It seems like the getaway day Rule 5 draft could be done in an online chat like the fantasy drafts. So there's really no need to gather even for that.

According to Crasnick, Wilson Ramos is the currently the Angels' "primary target'".

Not crazy about Ramos but certainly an upgrade. All comes down to money and years. 2/$25m would be great.

If the Angels could get Ramos for 2/$25, I'd become crazy for him. He's projected on Fangraphs to get 3/$36.

Wilson Ramos is a 31 year old catcher. The most you give him is a year and maybe an option for a 2nd. No way do you give this guy more than that. Catchers don't age well.

mentioned that the Dogs were interested but they only wanted him on a one year deal and he's thinking he'll get a multi year deal.

I'd got two years for him.

Our primary target right now should be Kikuchi.

Ya. Let someone else go more years on a catcher over the age of 30. I don't know much about Kikuchi but young good pitching on this team can never hurt.

Kikuchi scares me, I’m not sure I would make him an offer. We all know this team’s history with pitchers being hurt so adding one that has a similarly injury history is not good imo. Not too mention the fact that he’s pitched so many innings in Japan. Ramos was amazing last year so I wouldn’t mind a two year deal (3 if we get some sort of bargain).
