Yes Arte the moment he allowed the trade for Upton committed to the money.  It isn’t Arte’s Opt out it’s Uptons.

Under most scenarios, I would agree.   But until Upton officially stays here, it is still a question mark.

Could have actually been part of the negotiations. Maybe advising them he intends to opt out.

Yes that’s absolutely correct. Arte agreed to the trade based on his current salary and nothing more. If he opts out Arte might just say bye bye.

Yes Arte agreed to the deal based on current terms and conditions of Upton’s current contract. Arte and Eppler may have both agreed at the time that 4 / $88.5M was a good value deal and fits with their plans moving forward. 

If Upton opts out it changes everything. He becomes a free agent. It means that he’s listening to his agent and the attorneys that represent him instead of Angels fans on angelswin.

Upton, his agent, Arte and Eppler could’ve signed an extension the same day of the trade (no brainer because the money was there) but they didn’t. Upton made it very clear that he liked playing here but that he wants to win. Let’s see how it plays out. 

Hopefully he doesn’t opt out so the Angels can get good value from of his current deal.

Yep and if he opts out Arte is no longer obligated to Justin Upton and $88.5M goes back in Arte’s pocket to do as he pleases.

Well I hope he doesn’t opt out but one thing that Upton better take under serious consideration is that none of the three big market teams are interested in him. That will certainly have a negative impact on his marketability. His current deal at 4 / $88.5M is a bird in the hand.
