If he is a few at bats  short can't they give him plate appearances to qualify but it has to be able out? I though the they did that for Gwynn one year.

It actually won't affect MVP consideration because that award is not under the control of MLB, it is the Baseball Writers Association of America and they have latitude in regards to what they can consider a full season. They are not bound by the same rules MLB uses to hand out awards like the batting title which uses plate appearances. 

Just like Hall of Fame induction in Cooperstown, it is affiliated with but not governed by MLB.

Gwynn won in 96 with only 497 plate appearances

If you're short, they count each missing plate appearance as an out. Gwynn actually had 498. Give Gwynn the 4 outs to make it to 502 and his average drops from .353 to .349. However,  he still beat Ellis Burks' .344.

Trout gonna need to keep his eye popping slash line near the same and he's gonna need Altuve to sort of dip a bit as well IMO. I don't think simply getting the WC will give him the edge if Altuve continues to hit .360 or so on what will likely be a 100 win team

Is Trout currently on pace to qualify? This offense is terrible so that's gonna hurt him but at least he's hitting 2nd. Should give him a handful more PA over the remainder of the year

If you're looking for a standard, George Brett had a OPS +203 and 9.4 BWAR in 117 games and 515 PA's in 1980. Of course, the Royals also went to the WS that year....

agreed.  I think it will take a batting title along with the WC win.  Trout will hit a walk off hr vs. seattle the last game of the season to win a playoff spot and knock seattle out.  That hr will also propel him to the batting title by half a %.  We will beat the yanks in a one game playoff, sweep boston in the div series, beat cleveland in a 7 game series that will be epic beyond imagination and then beat the dogs in a 7 game series that will go down as one of the greatest of all time.   In the off season, Albert will announce that he will retire after the 2018 season and we will extend Trout to an 11 year 400 mil deal.

George Brett hit .390 that year and was hitting .400 after game 148. He also drove in 118 runs in 117 games. He hit .469 with runners in scoring position! If anybody comes anywhere near those numbers this season, or probably any season, they'll win the MVP.

Brett was hitting .247 after an 0-6 on May 21. He proceeded to hit .464 until August 26th when he went 5-5 and finished the day batting .407. He missed hitting .400 by 5 hits.

Well, it seems Scioscia is enamored of Albert in the three-spot, so Trout should get more AB's hitting second. It could make the difference.
