Trout hits foul pole (Baylor)

I heard it mentioned somewhere.  I was only 8 during that season so my memory of events that year aren't very good.  I remember going to games and the chants of Yes We Can.  I remember these "halo" noise makers that you spun around.  I'm pretty sure they were yellow with a blue stick that said Yes We Can.  As an 8 year old I think I loved baseball because my brothers and dad loved it.  I didn't love it like I love it now.  Plus it was so much harder to watch or pay attention.  Heck even the radio station lost some power once it got dark out.  I don't remember the home run, but I've seen the highlights.

Did Baylor homer by hitting the foul pole or something once?

July 1979 home series with the Skanks, after Ryan nearly no-hit them on Friday night, Baylor tied the game in the 9th with a 3 run HR that hit the LF foul pole.   They rallied from a big early deficit to win it in the 12th on Merv Rettenmund's double down the RF line.   Then Grich homered off of Gossage in the bottom of the 9th on Sunday to complete as great of a regular season weekend sweep as there has been at Angel Stadium.

In Dick Enberg's words on tv (yes, calling that game on tv)...."It's hit the foul pole.  He hit the FOUL POLE.   Oh my!"

Only frigging AO would know this, but was that friday night Ryan-Yankee game on like ABC?  I kind of remember living in Maryland and watching that.

It was on ABC.   Other antedotcs to it:  CF Rick Miller had a ball hit off his glove in the top of the 8th, that could have been scored a hit but was ruled an error.   SS Jim Anderson had a GB glance off of him in the 9th, that also could have been ruled a hit, although easier to field than Miller's play.    Reggie then singled in the 9th to break up the no-no.    Not surprisingly, the game was on a Friday the 13th and was a twilight game (5:15 start).

Oh no.  I remember because I was at that game.  One of the best games I've ever watched in person.  My brother and I wanted to leave in the seventh because they were losing but our Grandma made us stay.  God bless her.
