Maybin did a LOT of running and stretching on his first day back from an oblique strain. The early start would have limited his recovery period anyway. Better safe than sorry.

I imagine Maybin might have swung a deal, "activate me today, I'll take tomorrow off, and come back Sunday" and that's why we saw a last minute change.
