Will this all come together and when?

We've seen glimpses from this team in every facet of the game.

Solid pen.  Encouraging starts from Skaggs, Shoe, Nolasco and Chavez.  Very good offense.  Excellent defense.

There's good news and bad news.

The Pen - the good is that they are better than expected.  From top to bottom they are solid.  The bad?  They are still a dominant arm short of being really good.

The Starters - the good is that Skaggs and Shoe can dominate as can Chavez and Nolasco although not as often for the latter two.  The bad?  Richards.  Many discount what he means to this rotation.  He might not be able to put up the innings of a conventional ace, but when healthy, he's likely going to put up a sub 3 era.  Without him, we are left with someone who might be anywhere from solid to meh.  That's a big gap

The defense - the good is that they are going to be the most consistent part of this season for us.  We will play good defense all year.  The bad?  There really isn't much as long as Escobar doesn't go full retard on his throws.

The offense - the good is that they have that frenzied hitting potential.  The bad?  They are missing a bat in the middle and the lack of length could make them go dormant for periods which we have already seen.  Gonna need either Cron, Marte or Valbuena to become dangerous from that 5th spot because even though Simmons has evolved into a solid hitter, he not a true threat.  Again, as with the theme above, we are one guy short.

Richards was pitching great until... well you know. Defense has been solid in 8 out of 9 spots, Bullpen has shown glimpses of what is possible from them. The offense has shown signs of no quitting. Unfortunately there have very few if any games where all the brights spots happened in the same game.

It's been two weeks, and they're still hovering around .500 as expected. The offense wasn't likely to be as good as it was in week one, but the pitching wasn't likely to be that bad.

Most encouraging is that the bullpen doesn't look like a total disaster. With that, if the team can stay healthy, I feel good about the expected rotation/offensive production being enough to keep them in the mix.
