Those guys from Green Day spend many of their days at their houses in Newport Beach. I used to see Tre Cool and Billy Joe around the peninsula when I lived down there. Never saw Mike Dirnt though. Dude was awesome especially in Screeching Weasel. Quite a far cry from their “punk” days in Berkeley.

Speaking of Screeching Weasel, it’s funny how quite a few punk song songs still ring true today.

Maybe screeching weasel was spreading misinformation and hate speech so therefor he doesn’t have the right to speak.

California sets new home standards to lower fire risk, including fire-resistant roofs

Quote

A fire-resistant roof, at least 5 feet of defensible space around a home, a clearly defined evacuation route in a neighborhood and the removal of vegetation overgrowth in a community are some of the new statewide insurance standards to reduce the wildfire risk of older homes, California officials announced Monday.

Good luck in the 5 feet reduction of space around a home, where homes are densely packed next to each other.  And which is it?  We need more trees to prevent global warming or less trees to prevent wildfires?

they're building everywhere they can, then turn around and complain about the lack of green spaces. it's a fascinating dynamic.

Why are California’s Democratic leaders reluctant to halt the state’s gas tax hike?

Quote

Newsom, a Democrat, in his January budget proposed stopping the increase, at least for this year. That move would cost the state about $523 million in lost revenue that would otherwise go for things like roads and bridges. Newsom said that money can come instead from the state’s $45.7 billion surplus.

California budget surplus is big enough to give every resident $1,100 stimulus check, state lawmaker says

As California mulls whether to possibly send another round of stimulus checks to deal with a massive projected budget surplus, one state lawmaker on Wednesday made the case for more tax rebates.

In a video released online, Republican State Sen. Brian Jones used grains of rice to break down the projected budget surplus which, as of January, was estimated at $45.7 billion.

“If each grain of rice is $100,000, that means California’s $45 billion surplus is taxes over-collected by this much,” Jones explained as he shifted the large pile of rice around with his hand.

So what to do with all that money?

According to the state senator, the amount is enough to send every Californian a tax rebate of $1,125, or $4,500 for a family of four.

California’s budget surplus may be up to $23 billion more than previous projection

But it's vital to keep the gas tax increase, because Calolfornia can't live without that extra $500 million in taxes.

Maybe I'll get back some of the $16K they took from me last year in income tax
