Today the #Angels have claimed LHP Cody Ege off waivers from the Miami Marlins. He has been optioned to Triple-A @SaltLakeBees.

"The Marlins acquired the 25-year-old Ege last season when they sent Sam Dyson to Texas. Ege has spent most of the season in bullpen with New Orleans, where he’s posted a 4.50 ERA with 7.2 K/9 and 5.5 BB/9 in 44 innings. He also appeared in five games with the Marlins, the first of his big-league career. The Marlins selected his contract in April. The 2013 15th-round pick has a career 2.63 ERA, 10.5 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in parts of four minor league seasons."

Ege is listed a 6-1, 190 pounds, born May 8, 1991. As you may expect from his lack of press attention, Ege does not throw hard, his fastball generally in the 85-88 range with two and four-seam varieties. He relies a great deal on his slider and change-up. His lowish arm delivery angle adds some deception and looks tough on left-handed hitters; he's done a good job controlling them in the minors: they hit just .047 against him last year.

Overall, Ege projects as a LOOGY but could have a long career in that role. Here's a quick spring training look.
