In 2013 everybody thought the Royals sucked and we're a few years away from contending.

Also, for the millionth time, baseball isn't football.  One high first-round pick isn't going to have an immediate impact on your team. It's usually the later rounds where you get the key players.

No pick is going to have an immediate impact on the team. But the higher picks are far more likely to eventually have an impact.

You also get more pool money and better slot position throughout the subsequent rounds. And your Royals comparison doesn't make sense because they were terrible for 20 years.

I hate you.

The value of high draft picks is enormous. I have no idea why so many people seem to act like that isn't the case. It's about as logical as arguing that the sun will not rise tomorrow.

It's because many high draft picks in baseball don't end up working out. The MLB draft is a crap shoot, but people are crazy if they wouldn't prefer a higher pick in the draft over a lower one.

All of that is true but I see lots of posts downplaying the importance of high draft picks. They are very important.

And 3 of the Angels runs in the 2002 World Series Game 6 came by two Top3 draft picks in Glaus & Erstad.

Also the highest pick in the 2nd round in 1995 was Jarrod Washburn #31st overall.

Franchise wouldn't be where it is without those three. Washburn & Erstad the same year.

Nick Tropeano (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Tropeano is dealing with a UCL tear in his right elbow and after visiting with Dr. David Altchek for a second opinion last week, he has resigned himself to Tommy John. The 25-year-old right-hander will miss the remainder of the 2016 season and likely won't be back on a major league mound until this time next summer at the earliest.
