Obviously, his bat is the real key here---as long as he continues to hit, they'll look for ways to get him in the lineup.  But if a LF switch is really going to work, a lot depends on his commitment and work ethic.  Brian Downing worked his butt off when he was switched and became an ok LF'er....that's a pretty tough comparison, Downing was one of a kind, but if Marte sees this as his ticket to stay in the lineup, maybe he works his butt off too....but he needs to keep hitting and force the issue....

I'd prefer Marte at DH and get anything you can for Cron. Anyone know how familiar Petit is with 2b. I'd like to see a middle infield of him and simmons. I'm pretty much done with watching Giavotella's boulder hands.

Petit is a career utility man. Anywhere you can hit a grounder he can field it and throw to first.

Surprised no one has responded to this.  I know the sample size is still really small, but I like what I see.  I'm surprised the Tigers didn't keep him.

Having even the suggestion of some power in the 5 and 6 spots seems to make a big difference in how the lineup is approached by the other team. If nothing else there's always a puncher's chance.
