That didn't take long.  That bottom 3 in particular is cringe-worthy.

Angels:

1. Yunel Escobar (R) 3B
2. Kole Calhoun (L) RF
3. Mike Trout (R) CF
4. Albert Pujols (R) 1B
5. C.J. Cron (R) DH
6. Geovany Soto (R) C
7. Johnny Giavotella (R) 2B
8. Shane Robinson (R) LF
9. Brendan Ryan (R) SS

Shoemaker on the mound

Cards:

1. Matt Carpenter (L) 3B
2. Stephen Piscotty (R) RF
3. Matt Holliday (R) DH
4. Brandon Moss (L) LF
5. Yadier Molina (R) C
6. Matt Adams (L) 1B

GO ANGELS!!!! Go Matt Shoemaker!!!

The man known by some as The Cobbler needs to stitch together a winning effort tonight and snap a four-game skid.

Shortstop of at least this week Brendan Ryan brings his close-to-retirement AAA bat to the 9-hole for the Halos and his undisputedly fine glove to Angels Stadium.

Mike Trout brings his undisputedly great bat to the 3-hole again. Now we are all waiting for the $30 million man who is assigned to hit fourth to hit with consistent authority.

I'm still waiting for him to hit, period. Once (if) that happens, maybe then we can wait on authority, and then finally consistent authority.

If Pujols hasn't figured it out by now, he ain't gonna. He's been with us for enough years to see that his power is gone and yet he still insists on pulling the ball and swinging for the fences. We might see shades of his former self every so often in streaks, or maybe he'll have one "hot" month, but unless he adjusts his swing and approach based on the lack of power he now has, he's never going to be the batter Arte is paying him to be.

Time for Shoe to turn things around.  A little harsh Cali to say Pujols' power is gone.  He just came off a 40 HR year, and he is on pace for 30 plus this year.  Yeah, with regard to batting average it's not pretty, but his legs and age won't support much better there anymore.  He can still be effective if he can step it up some though.
