I've seen a couple of suggestions that we trade Joe Smith.  This may not be a bad idea.  The Dodgers, for one, are looking for an 8th inning bridge to Kenley Jansen. 

 

What about a Smith for Zach Lee and another prospect deal?  Lee seems blocked in LA's rotation, and would fit in our rotation quite well, at the moment.  Thoughts?

My understanding is that Zach Lee is no longer much of a prospect, so he is the kind of guy that maybe you could get for a Joe Smith or Escobar.

100% yes. I think everyone knows Smith isn't what he was 2 years ago though, he won't brig much back. I'm sure the dogs would rather have SP depth than a shitty set up guy

I don't think the Dodgers go for it. Lee isn't the frontline guy he was originally projected to be but he can still be a solid back end starter. 2-3 months of Joe Smith probably doesn't net you someone like Lee. 

 

Smith could absolutely be an option for the Dodgers though. We could probably get a top 15 prospect from their system, which means that prospect would be top 3/5 in our system.

Smith has struggled some so far.   That doesn't help our cause any in trying to trade him.

Isn't Smith a free agent at seasons end? If so, don't expect much in return for rental rp.  I like the idea, if there is some return value to the team .

Remember the asset you're selling has to be performing. Smith's K/9 is in the toilet along with his ERA. We'd better hope for a rebound soon if he is to have any value as AO said.

Joe Smith is fading fast so he won't bring back much at all. If he were to have a good month or two to rebuild his value that would be just super.
