Samsung Pay

Has anyone used this (I thought it just came out today), DEMO'd it or plans to use it?

 

I just installed it today and will get my Credit Cards all synced up. 

 

Thoughts?

Hopefully it's better than Google Pay.  I put my credit cards in for Google Pay, and both came back as sorry we don't accept those merchants.

I have used Apple Pay a couple times.  Honestly it doesn't seem any more convenient than taking a card out of my wallet.

I figure that it is only a matter of time before hackers figure out how to defeat systems like this and charge stuff to my cards without me even pulling them out. Identity theft is common enough as it is.

I'm just surprised no one is doing 2 way authentication for credit cards.  Especially now that smart phones and texting is so prevalent.  It's inconvenient, but a lot securer than a chip or a strip.

Well, debit cards have two way authentication.

 

Something you know (like a PIN)

 

Something you have (the card)

 

just missing the whole "Something you Are" part (like a fingerprint).

technically 2FA just requires two of the three.

it's why gas stations require zip code, etc.

 

for CCs, what i do is make sure i get a txt every time any of my accounts are used.

it's pretty immediate.

anytime there is something funky (never have, knock on wood) i would see it immediately.

Found out Samsung Pay isn't using Chase or BECU so this is worthless to me as of now.

Problem is that the pin never changes and neither does the card.  So if someone skims both, you are screwed.  

 

A lot of gaming and even banking online uses a unique code sent to you that is only valid for a minute.  

 

Of course if someone steals your phone and CC, you may be as screwed as if someone skimmed and recorded your pin number.  

 

And Nate can tell you.  Something you are can be a pain since it never changes.  And well, some 15 million government employees got that part stolen.

i refuse to use apple pay. that's just one more thing of mine they have access to that i don't think they need. i also refuse to use my fingerprint to open my phone. too intrusive.
