The luxury tax is incredibly low. Most teams in MLB could go over it and remain profitable. The fact simply is that Arte doesn't want to spend. After years of talk about spending money, investing in the team, blah blah blah, he is just another cheap owner trying to make a buck. 

 

After seeing the results of the Pujols and Hamilton contracts, I can't fault Moreno for not being anxious to throw the checkbook wide open.

So remember when some of us here were vocally unhappy about Pujols, Hamilton, etc contracts and we were told "why are you complaining its not your money?"

Yep, just because Arte was willing to spend that money doesn't mean there aren't negative consequences of having bad contracts vs. no contracts. Even if Arte were to sell the team to a different owner who was more willing to spend big, that new owner would still inherit the Angels crappy luxury tax situation.

I love how OP conveniently left out that Scioscia has been with a BILLIONAIRE owner that spends a lot of money on players for most of that time.
