Ben Cherington?

I don't follow them closely enough, but if he builds a strong farm that would be a plus. I can tell you I don't like ANY of the money they spent in the off season. I don't like the Panda or Ramirez signings or the Porcello extension. I do like the trade to get Porcello, giving up one year of Cespedes for a young solid starting pitcher. He put no emphasis on defense, which I am sure is another argument, but I certainly feel safer knowing the Angels have guys that can field their positions. I am not a fan of watching guys like Freese, Joyce and Gia. They replaced guys that were solid defensively.

You see the offseason Cherington just had? Brutal

Boston's biggest need in the offseason was pitching...so what does he do? He spends  nearly $200 million on 2 more bats, including Pablo Sandoval, who has had weight issues from day one and plays a demanding position in 3B. Pretty easy to see how that deal would end up

He then "addressed" the pitching by trading for Wade Miley, who had nearly a mid 4 ERA in the NL, and then traded Cespedes for Rick Porcello. He also decided to hand out $10 million to Justin Masterson after he was coming off a season in which he posted an ERA of 6.03

Shortly after adding those studs to the rotation, he gave out extensions to both Miley and Porcello before even seeing how they pitched during the year. Porcello received a 4yr/$82.5 million extension right when the season began. He currently has a 5.81 ERA and his extension doesn't kick in until the start of next season

All of this happened in the span of 3-4 months. No wonder he's out of a job
